Programme for 2011

In our painting vacations we welcome beginners and experienced students, who wish to learn and practice their art, guiding their working methods towards a goal of artistic excellence.
Private sessions for individuals or very small groups are available for our monotype and watercolour workshops. We offer choice studio locations with naturally all ideal settings for our courses, selected for their cultural heritage, inspirational vistas and comfortable accommodation.

Monotype Printmaking
Undeniably an extraordinary technique with infinite avenues to explore!
Moving ink on metal is more a dance form than a rendition and it allows spontaneity and surprise like no other discipline expressed on paper. Finding solutions in the twist of ones wrist, smudge of a line, stroke of lace, opens the doors to one creative conclusion after another. Beginners will be fascinated by the success of their artistic expression and advanced painters who are experienced in different techniques will find inspiration through the immediacy of this medium.

About the Monotype technique

Journaling
Whether you are an experienced painter or a beginner, this is a delightful and inspirational way to draw and appreciate the beauty you see around you. You will create a journal as you explore anything that might strike your fantasy while travelling in Italy, in a variety of techniques which include drawing in pen, watercolour and notes added to memorable pages of ones journal.
Teaching consists in skill-building suggestions with generous individual attention and guidance.
Upcoming Journaling workshop

Watercolour
Watercolours are fascinating because of their brilliant colours that seem to barely touch the paper tinting with apparent ease. In our workshops painting is done outdoors, “plein air”, working directly from nature, to capture the varied, shifting effects of light and atmosphere on the landscape.
These workshops are challenging but it’s guaranteed that the beginner and the advanced painter will enrich the quality of their technique.
Upcoming Watercolour workshops

Drawing
It was during the early Renaissance that drawing became established as the foundation of all art training. The technique is based on concepts such as balance, proportion and perspective using sfumato ( blurring or softening of sharp outlines) chiaroscuro (modelling effect using a strong contrast between light and dark). Our drawing and painting workshops follow the methods taught to Renaissance geniuses like Masaccio and Michelangelo. You will be excited to discover the confidence and security in drawing faces and figures that this drawing course provides.
Upcoming Drawing workshop

Painting with natural pigments
The warm natural feel and soft finish achieved when using natural pigments and egg yolk as a binder are of great satisfaction and stimulating to artistic sensibility. The workshop is based on the Renaissance drawing technique, followed by the creation of your own colour palette, starting with natural pigments derived from minerals, insects or plants. The technique is called “Egg tempera painting” as it uses egg yolk as a binder, a recipe used by the Masters throughout the centuries.
